Driveway Quote — a quote built properly, standing in someone's driveway

A quote builder for solo trades in British Columbia. Line items, GST and PST the way BC actually works, a deposit, and it keeps working when there is no signal.

A quote built from memory gets argued with

I started from the moment the tool has to work: a plumber or a landscaper in a driveway, pricing a job on a phone, often with one bar of signal. Do it from memory and you read numbers down the line later, and then argue about the tax.

British Columbia does not have one tax here, it has two, on different things. GST is five per cent of labour and materials. PST is seven per cent of materials only, because labour on a home does not carry PST. Charge PST on the labour and I am inventing a fee. Leave it off the materials and you eat it.

The maths sits on the screen, line by line, and it works with no signal

I put every line on the quote, then each tax underneath with the reason printed below it. The deposit is a share of the total with tax, so it matches the bank statement rather than starting an argument of its own.

I built it for a driveway. A service worker keeps it loading with the network cut, a half-finished quote survives a reload, and prices already used fill in on the next quote. When the customer says yes there is a button for that, and the result prints as a letter-size quote instead of a screenshot of a phone.

Nine tests hold the tax arithmetic and eighteen browser checks cover the rest.

Outcome

Live at https://solo-tools-quote.vercel.app. GST is five per cent of labour and materials; PST is seven per cent of materials only. It survives a reload in the middle of a quote and reloads with the network cut.
